Hark might that be Aphrodite out there all by herself, all exposed and alone on her little pedestal circled with mulch? Is she confused, being stuck here having to look at the backside of a “Colonial” which resembles nothing she has ever seen? Does she wonder about that loud whooshing noise coming from beyond the trees behind her, which we would know is the sound of cars and trucks on busy Leesburg Pike (Rt. 7)? Some lucky buyer will be delighted to find this scene in Great Falls, VA that comes with a 3 car garage, 5 full and 1 half bath, and 4 bedrooms for the bargain price of $1,089,000.

It just always floors me that real estate agents make snapshots such as this one and add them to their listings with the idea that they are somehow communicating something positive. This one brings to mind many other words instead: desolate; disjointed; plastic; stark; incomplete, for instance. And then, as you point out, there’s that poor lonely statue who’s lost her context – someone please go get her one, she’s shivering in the heat of the day!

That’s good–”lost her context”.

At this joint, they make contexts out of pure chintz.
