7012-Bradley-Blvd.-house-and-painting-together

Today Land of Excess visits this art-like thing in a hallway in an “Elegant custom estate” (also pictured) in Bethesda, MD.  The 3 car garage and 7 bedrooms and 6 full and 2 half baths are listed at $2,990,000.  Land of Excess has phoned up our real estate contact, the estimable Joelle Van Dyne, Qualified Real Estate Assistant (and M.A. in English Lit) to ask her about why it is that people who live in houses such as this so often have paintings such as this very one (sometimes EXACTLY like this very one) on their walls. Joelle avers several reasons why: that pictures featuring old vernacular European architecture are felt to be tasteful and cheerful;  that the pictures reflect their interest in and devotion to and “by extension” their personal connection to beautiful and universally admired and cherished architecture; and because they can get the pictures at a quantity discount.
