Land of Excess came across the house at right today, in an online real estate listing.  It was built in 1932 and is in Chevy Chase, MD, and is offered at $3,500,000.  Seeing it, we immediately thought back to the newly built and overwrought house at left, in Great Falls, VA, that was offered recently at $7,900,000.   We think that there is so much tension in the too close and too tall columns at left that we can barely even stand to look at that picture.  Worse, those columns make us think of gum that is stuck to the sole of a shoe.  As the shoe is slowly lifted up from the gummy pavement, the gum stretches and stretches, remaining attached.
